She began her artistic career with hand painted t-shirts and sold through the original surf store, "Byron Bay Classics" in the 1980's.
Some of the iconic images she conjured then continue to appear today.
Gaily has sold her works locally and internationally over 25 years of passionate painting, She now lives in the byron hinterland on a lovely secluded 30 acre mountain property.
Describe your painting Style?
What you see here is a culmination of my true free spirit with the skillful artistic interpretation and technique developed over many years dedicated to my art. My recent works are primarily figurative, using a varity of media in clour or black and white.
Each painting has it's own way of evolving, one may begin in a myraid of lines, either drawn from the models' magic of the moment, or by the lush array of colours on hand. I paint intuitively, and fast.. a Zen process that overrides any compulsion for the right and wrong ways to do things, allowing the subconcious to flow through the trained hand.
Mostly I paint the figure, as I am bouncing off stimuli from the model, and reflecting on the most playfull aspects I can muster. I love colour and my use of beautiful glorious colours is as intuitive as the emerging form. There is no knowing the paintings outcome until the picture in front of me stops as quickly as it began, or when the subject reveals itself.
Then I approach the works reality with active analysis, dividing it into as many different factors as possible, playing with the light and movement, strong lines and planes.
To me a good paing is a doorway to the divine.
