Jeff’s website blog July 28, 2011
So I figured I’d better blog at some point in my life so here’s what’s on my mind right now. There are so
many bands out there that just aren’t bro’s! You have 100’s, perhaps thousands of pre-fab bands out
there that are only in it for fame and money and probably the chance of getting laid by strangers on a
regular basis. Well that’s cool if that’s your dream! But you know what’s really cool? What’s really cool
is playing with three other guys you respect, love and appreciate every minute of every day because
they’re your bro’s and they blow your mind with their styles, talent and personalities. I’m in this because
I love creating (for lack of a better word!) music. Very rarely do four likeminded individuals have a
chance to love, create, share, celebrate and enjoy life together! I’m proud to be DWC. Woodbug .

Ray's Blob of our DWC show at the Troubadour Club in Langley, BC - July 8th, 2011
We rocked with two of the best bands the Lower Mainland has to offer, One Bad Son and Krome. What a great night of full-on rock and roll. One Bad Son is well on their way to super rock stardom with a full line up of killer musicians and catchy songs. Keep an eye out for these guys.
Krome was killer too with their brand of hooky 3min songs. The musicanship of these guys was unreal. Their drummer blew my mind with a bombastic drum solo. Solos are rare these days, F'n well done!! Watch for these Dudes as well.
The biggest lesson I was taught that night?...Use a wireless mic when your mic stand is a prop. Boy did I have troubles.
There you have it kids, Frontman lesson #1:
I
f you're an active, moving Frontman/Frontwoman - get a wireless.

Howdy folks Josh here. Sooooooo... i have just returned from an epic and inspiring journey to this years Sasquatch fest at the Gorge in Washington and let me tell ya what a show. As I enjoyed so many amazing bands, one thing I noticed was the age of a lot of the players killing it on stage. Perhaps its because I am about to turn 40 (ouch that hurts) that i noticed this more than I would have if I was 25. The thing is as a musician in his late thirties i have sometimes felt like " If i haven't made it by now I'm too old to try" and that simply isn't true. I am a better player, more focused and less constrained by the superficiality of an overcompensating youth. in short Ive grown up. And that is not a bad thing.
The older I get the more sophisticated my juvenility becomes. When i was young i didn't realize the players I looked up to were well into their thirties, seasoned and at their finest. I mean how the hell can a 15 year old sing about heartache. Don't worry Justin we'll get you another puppy. Thing is i feel young people today get music with deeper social commentary and heartfelt substance that you can only find with a bit of life experience. You don't have to be 20 to relate to a 20 year old as i see it. Rock n roll keeps you young and I'm not gonna quit.

Supporting The Peeps at the Media Club - Pedwell, Handsome Distraction and Kieran Strange.
So I went out to the Media Club to support the HD Boys from Victoria and our gal KS from Vancouver. Then I stumbled onto Pedwell.
Handsome Distraction is a mash up of Punk meets old skool Elvis Costello. Their intensity, musicianship and commitment to every song performed was awesome. It was a pleasure and an honour to be a part of their moment as they ripped out one song after another. Bassist Chris Weaver has the craziest fingers! Being the tallest member of the band, Chris holds his own and stabilizes everything around him with his stoic stature, great bass tones and lines. His playing choices were impeccable. Devin Perfect rocks pure emotion with his rigid stance and intense performance. A super solid vocalist, Devin has a surprising and unassuming demon in him in the form an wicked primal scream. Laying out rad riffs Devon, can crank his guitar with swift command. Furthermore, he adds to the show with his driven Frontmanship and relentless passion for each song. Lead guitarist Corey Francis is liquid, calm and chill. Though don’'t be fooled by his Zen demeanor. His tasty lead lines, solos and rhythm playing never stood in the way of the music. The mark of a great player is to allow the song to form as one entity and he made that happen. Without his cool playing choices the songs wouldn’'t be the same and to the other end of the spectrum too many choices would ruin the songs. Corey nailed all the points with his sound, effects and playing. Drummer Bryan Henry Reiber leaves the band but not without one last bombastic blow out. Playing like it was his night on earth Bryan, never missed a beat and he did it all with a joyfull look on his face. A hard hitting and very accomplished drummer, Bryan'’s intimate relationship with each song came out in the form of perfect strokes, fills and dynamics. Handsome Distraction'’s new drummer has some big shoes to fill.
Kieran Strange, the U.K songstress that now calls Vancouver home rocked it hard. Her and her band laid us out with her brand of in your face pop rock. She has a great command of the stage and of her songs. Kieran'’s no bullshit attitude with her sweetness-of-an-angel looks is a devilish mix. It comes out in her music with Jekyll and Hyde precision. Who is she now? We don’t know? It makes for a good show. The addition of a new replacement guitar player helped immensely. Having seen Kieran a few months ago with her old player, the new member polishes her show and sound even more...Good move Kieran.
Pedwell- All I have to say is what the fuck?. I have never witnessed these guys before but I loved them. They'’re kind of like System of a Down meets…....don’t know what? Meets awesomeness is what they meet.
I don't know much of Pedwell but my first impression was of Brad Pedwell's vocals. The duality he possesses was impressive and easy to listen too. Moving from light melodic singing to screamo was seamless. I’'ve heard this style of vocals before, it's nothing new, but Brad Pedwell respects what his voice box does and it shows. He doesn't over play or abuse it. Like Handsome Distraction, every member of the band played like it was their last show on earth. For a 3 piece their sound was HUGE. Not to mention they are super TIGHT. In addition to singing, Brad Pedwell is the band's accomplished guitarist. The three members executed their performances and musicianship with awesome guided missile accuracy. Pedwell’s song writing is advanced and well developed. It was exciting to witness the timing changes, feel and groove manipulation. I know I would be stoked to play a show with these Cats any day..So good.
