Day Trips From Lairg...
In Lairg, you can visit Ferrycroft Visitors Centre and learn about local ecology and history, followed by a visit to the nearby Falls of Shin to watch the Salmon leap and shop in the ‘Harrods of the North’! Next, head toward Rosehall and enjoy forest walks and local artisan craft shops before taking in the beautiful views of the Kyle of Sutherland.
To the West of Lairg you will travel through Sutherland’s Geopark on route to Lochinver and the picturesque views of Sullivan & Canisp. Take a detour and admire the rugged coastline and the villages of Stoer, Drumbeg and Nedd. Arriving in Kylesku you could visit the famous Kerrachar Gardens or head back to Lairg via Inchnadamph, a great place to take part in potholing!
Beaches
To the North West of Lairg, follow the gentle shores of Loch Shin towards the small village of Achfary, home to the only black & white telephone box in the UK! Travel on to Laxford and Rhiconich passing the almighty views of Ben Stack. From Rhiconich you can choose to visit the nearby fishing village of Kinlochbervie or continue north to Durness and relax on one of its many beautiful beaches.

To the North of Lairg, travel the Strathnaver Trail passing past the remote but welcoming Crask Inn and on to Altnaharra. Entering Mackay Country, follow the winding road of Strathnaver and on to Bettyhill. Choose to visit the Strathnaver Museum before heading toward the villages of Tongue and Melness.
History...
To the East of Lairg are the busy towns of Dornoch, Golspie, Brora and Helmsdale. Situated on the A9 these villages are a contrast from the West and North Coasts of Sutherland. In Dornoch you will find the Royal Golf Course, many tourist shops and the beautiful Cathedral. Travel northwards through Strath Fleet nature reserve to Golspie where you will discover Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Clan Sutherland. Then head further north through the fishing port of Brora and on to Helmsdale to explore Timespan Visitors Centre and perhaps even enjoy an afternoon panning for gold!
